Vocaloids are Lame

Vocaloids are Lame is a track featured on the 2012 album 'I Can Has Miku?' by the internet artist Uguu. The track emerged during the height of the early 2010s subculture surrounding Vocaloid software, a period marked by the meteoric rise of virtual idols like Hatsune Miku. It serves as a satirical commentary on the polarizing nature of synthesized vocal technology and the passionate, often exclusionary, fan debates that defined the Vocaloid community at the time.

The production leans heavily into early internet-era electronic music, utilizing lo-fi chiptune aesthetics and intentionally dry, deadpan vocal delivery. The creator's design intent was to mock the fervor of Vocaloid enthusiasts by subverting the high-gloss aesthetic usually associated with the medium. While the track was received primarily as a niche joke within internet forums and meme culture, it remains a notable artifact of the era's self-referential digital music scene.
