Waiting in the Summer OVA

The Waiting in the Summer OVA was released in 2014 as an extension of the original 2012 television anime series, Natsu no Iro no Sunadokei. Produced by the studio J.C.Staff, the episode serves as a direct epilogue to the romantic science fiction story, which follows a group of teenagers who encounter an extraterrestrial visitor during their summer break. The production was intended to offer fans a concluding chapter that further explored the relationships and emotional resolutions of the main cast after the climactic events of the series.

The character designs and core creative direction were carried out by the team behind the original series, maintaining the distinct aesthetic established by illustrator Taraku Uon. By returning to the familiar setting of Komoro, Nagano, the OVA aimed to recapture the poignant, melancholic atmosphere that defined the show’s exploration of youth and first love. While critical reception was generally localized to the dedicated fanbase of the series, the project is recognized as a sentimental coda that emphasizes the thematic weight of memory and the passage of time.
