Where it came from
Walking through the town with a film director was produced in 2017 as a promotional ONA, or Original Net Animation, tied to the release of the anime adaptation of the manga series 'Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!' and related projects by Science SARU. It was created to offer fans an intimate, observational look at the creative atmosphere surrounding independent animation production, serving as a companion piece that highlights the studio's commitment to visual storytelling and stylistic experimentation.
The animation was helmed by key members of the Science SARU creative team, known for their distinctively fluid and unconventional visual language. The design focuses on the interplay between urban environment and creative imagination, aiming to demystify the director's perspective through a contemplative, walking-simulator style of animation. It was received by the animation community as a niche but effective piece of internal studio branding, praised for its minimalist aesthetic and the rare glimpse it provides into the director's thematic influences.
