Where it came from
Wangzhe Wai Zhuan, also known as Honor of Kings: The Side Story, was released as a series of short animated episodes designed to expand the lore surrounding the immensely popular MOBA title Honor of Kings. Produced in the late 2010s, this ONA (Original Net Animation) serves as a promotional narrative extension, aiming to provide depth to the game's expansive roster of historical and mythical characters while maintaining the aesthetic style established by the primary franchise.
The production utilized a style intended to capture the fluid, high-energy combat sequences signature to the source material, balancing stylized character designs with atmospheric world-building. Reception within the gaming community was generally focused on its utility as a bridge between the game's competitive mechanics and its storytelling ambitions, helping to solidify the intellectual property as a multimedia franchise rather than solely a digital arena.
