When They Cry Kai

When They Cry: Kai, known in Japan as Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai, was released in 2007 as the second season of the animated adaptation of the popular visual novel series by 07th Expansion. Produced by Studio Deen and distributed by NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan, this installment was created to conclude the overarching mysteries introduced in the initial series. While the first season focused on the repetitive, dark psychological horror loops within the village of Hinamizawa, Kai serves as the resolution, shifting the narrative toward a more definitive fantasy-thriller arc centered on the character Rika Furude and her efforts to change fate.

The series retains the distinct character designs originally established by the doujin circle 07th Expansion, which were adapted for animation by Kyuta Sakai.
