Where it came from
Woman Wolf Mania was released in 2003 by the studio CherryLips, a boutique production house operating within the niche market of independent Japanese adult animation. The title emerged during a period when small studios were increasingly experimenting with distinct, genre-blending narratives to distinguish their catalogs in a crowded direct-to-video market.
The production sought to capitalize on the supernatural and transformation-themed trends prevalent in early 2000s underground animation. Its aesthetic was characteristic of the era's low-budget digital animation techniques, focusing on stylized character designs and surreal visual sequences. Like many titles from CherryLips, it received a modest distribution primarily targeting specialized collectors of underground OVA works rather than the mainstream anime audience.
