Where it came from
Women at Work was released on home video in 2005 by Media Blasters, a company primarily known for its role in distributing Japanese animation to North American audiences during the early 2000s. The production emerged from a period when independent labels were actively licensing a wide range of adult-oriented Japanese media, often repackaging obscure titles for a niche domestic market that had a growing appetite for diverse genre storytelling.
The design and aesthetic of the title reflect the standard production values of the era's straight-to-video animation industry, focusing on character-driven narratives within professional settings. As an original video animation, it was created to bypass the requirements of broadcast television, allowing for more thematic flexibility. Upon its release, the title was categorized within a specialized section of Media Blasters' catalog, serving as a modest entry in the broader landscape of imported adult animation available to English-speaking viewers at the time.
