Women De Dong Ao

Women De Dong Ao, or Our Winter Olympics, was produced by the Shanghai Animation Film Studio to commemorate the 2022 Winter Olympics hosted in Beijing. As a state-backed project, the film was designed to bridge the gap between traditional Chinese artistic sensibilities and the modern sporting spirit, serving as a cultural touchstone for the event. The production aimed to highlight the narrative of perseverance and national pride, utilizing the studio’s signature aesthetic to engage both younger audiences and animation enthusiasts.

The film represents a collaborative effort among various animation directors and artists within the Shanghai studio system. The design language draws from established Chinese folklore motifs and contemporary character animation techniques, seeking to evoke a sense of warmth and inclusivity. Upon its release, the project was noted for its technical polish and its role as a propaganda-adjacent medium intended to foster domestic enthusiasm for winter sports during a period of global isolation.
