The anime centers on Yukiya, who is "probably" 14 years old. He spends his time DJ-ing alone. Due to his father's influence, he's listened to house music since he was young, and he uploads videos online. He wants to convey something to someone. He wants to be recognized, and become important. But getting hurt is scary. One day, while trying to get more views, he does something that can't be undone. And he sees a live broadcast from "that world." Yukiya believes he can't do anything alone, but that he could accomplish something if he were doing it together with someone else.

Where it came from
W'z was produced by the studio GoHands and released in 2019 as a sequel series to their earlier work, Hand Shakers. The series continued the studio's distinctive visual aesthetic, which utilizes high-contrast lighting, saturated color palettes, and intricate 3D-CG environments to create a hyper-stylized urban atmosphere. It was crafted as an original anime project that blends elements of supernatural action with the personal journey of its protagonist, Yukiya.
The creative direction was spearheaded by GoHands, a studio known for their experimental approach to digital cinematography and character movement. Upon its release, the series received significant attention from the animation community primarily for its unconventional visual style, which polarized audiences. While some critics praised the technical ambition and unique artistic identity of the show, others found the complex visual processing distracting, cementing its status as a notable example of the studio's polarizing creative vision.
