Where it came from
Xiagu Zhong An Zu, known internationally as Under One Person, is a prominent Chinese web animation series adapted from the popular webcomic by Mi Er. The second season represents a significant milestone in the evolution of domestic Chinese animation, or donghua, as it expanded the franchise's dark fantasy narrative and deepened the exploration of traditional Chinese martial arts and folklore within a contemporary setting.
The animation production for this season was handled by Emon Animation Company, working to translate Mi Er's complex character designs and action-oriented storytelling into a fast-paced ONA format. Upon its release, the second season was widely received as a benchmark for the genre, praised for its improved animation fluidity and its success in maintaining the cult following established by the initial webcomic and the first season.
