Xin Yu Gong Yu Shan

Xin Yu Gong Yu Shan, released in 2012, is a Chinese animated feature produced by Toonmax Media. Created as a modern retelling of the classic Chinese folk tale about Yu the Great and his struggle against the great floods, the film sought to integrate traditional cultural motifs with contemporary computer-animated techniques to appeal to a younger domestic audience. Its production was part of a broader national initiative to revitalize ancient legends through the medium of high-quality animation.

The film's visual design was crafted to balance stylized character aesthetics with grand, sweeping landscapes characteristic of historical epic fantasy. While the studio aimed for a polished look that could compete with international standards, the reception was mixed, with some critics praising its attempt to preserve folklore, while others noted the challenges in pacing and character development. It remains a representative example of mid-2010s Chinese domestic animation efforts prior to the industry's massive aesthetic shift in the following years.
