Hao Ren was a typical young man from a small city who was barely making ends meet while living in an old house. However, via a strange turn of events, he becomes a "universe police officer." A problem is developing in his domain, the Dream Plane Universe, as he struggles to oversee a home inhabited by strange, non-human residents that his enigmatic superiors have assigned him.
As he investigates further, Hao Ren discovers a link between the remnants of a vanished civilization in the Dream Plane and the strange species on Earth. Hao Ren quickly learns that slacking off is no longer an option when long-buried horrors, fallen deities, and ancient cataclysms reappear.

Where it came from
Xin Yichang Shengwu Jianwen Lu: Xu, also known as Journal of the Mysterious Creatures: Sequel, was produced by Studio LAN as a continuation of the 2019 supernatural comedy series. Based on the popular web novel by Yuan Tong, the ONA serves to extend the narrative of Yoshiya Mine, a human who unwittingly begins hosting extraterrestrial refugees in his boarding house. The production sought to maintain the blend of mundane domesticity and high-stakes science fiction that defined the original run, utilizing a lighthearted aesthetic to contrast with the chaotic nature of the creature inhabitants.
The creative direction for this sequel focused on refining the character models and expanding the world-building established in the first season. By adapting later chapters of the source material, the design team aimed to capture the specific tone of the urban fantasy genre popular in contemporary Chinese web media. Upon its release, it was received primarily as a niche follow-up for dedicated fans of the original series, praised for its commitment to the established source material while navigating the structural limitations inherent to the ONA format.
