Yami Shibai 17

Yami Shibai 17 represents the latest installment in the long-running Japanese horror anthology series produced by ILCA. Continuing the tradition established in 2013, the series draws heavy inspiration from kamishibai, a traditional form of Japanese street theater where storytellers use illustrated paper boards to narrate eerie urban legends and folklore to an audience.

The visual identity of the series remains rooted in the distinctive digital animation style that mimics the textures of paper cutouts and traditional Japanese art. By maintaining this aesthetic, the studio aims to evoke a sense of nostalgic unease that resonates with the show's cult following. As with previous seasons, the series was produced to highlight bite-sized tales of supernatural dread, adhering to its signature short-form format that has defined the franchise for over a decade.
