Where it came from
Ye Si was produced by the studio Dazzling Star as an original net animation, fitting into the mid-2010s trend of experimental digital storytelling within the Chinese animation industry. The project was conceived as a showcase for independent creative expression, designed to explore atmospheric narratives through a distinct visual style that diverged from traditional television animation norms.
The character design and visual direction were crafted to evoke a sense of quiet introspection, prioritizing mood and fluid movement over complex action sequences. Upon its release, the work was noted by industry critics for its minimalist aesthetic and the studio’s willingness to focus on subtle character development, cementing its reputation among animation enthusiasts as a thoughtful example of the ONA format.
