Where it came from
Yi Shijie Zhongyao Pu 2 is a supplemental production within the broader Yi Shijie (The World of Yi) animated series, developed by the Chinese studio Soyep. The project emerged from the studio's interest in expanding the depth of their established fantasy world, focusing on documenting the intricate alchemical and medicinal lore that underpins the series' magic system.
The design of these supplemental materials leans into the aesthetic of traditional Chinese herbals, or 'Bencao,' reinterpreted through a stylized animation lens. The creative team aimed to bridge the gap between world-building lore and narrative engagement, providing viewers with a tactile sense of the series' internal logic. It was received by fans as a dedicated effort to add scholarly depth to the show's lore.
