Yumi's Cells: The Movie

Yumi's Cells: The Movie serves as a cinematic expansion of the popular webtoon series by Lee Dong-gun, which was originally adapted into a successful live-action drama series. Produced by Studio N, the film continues the narrative exploration of Yumi’s internal life, represented by anthropomorphized cells that dictate her thoughts, emotions, and behavioral choices. The adaptation process involved distilling the complex, ongoing character development of the webtoon into a feature-length format, maintaining the signature blend of 3D animation for the cells and live-action sequences for the real-world narrative.

The design of the film relies on the established visual language of the franchise, which emphasizes the cute, emotive, and distinct personalities of the individual cells. Studio N sought to preserve the whimsical yet relatable tone of the source material, ensuring that the visual representation of Yumi's subconscious remained consistent with the previous television installments. The project was received as a logical continuation of the franchise's strategy to leverage its intellectual property across different media formats, appealing primarily to existing fans of the webtoon and the television series.
