Aida Yurume is a ronin student who came to Tokyo to prepare for university entrance exam. But the place was a back district, where the address Tokyo is so ill-fitting. The residents of the apartment are Kawano Sae, a veteran ronin with straight-man character, Tanaka Kumi, an innocent-looking girl and Matsukishi, a young man looking twice as his age. The story depicts their slow and comfortable life of preparing for university.

Where it came from
Yurumates ha? was released in 2011 as an original video animation produced by the studio indigo line, based on the four-panel gag manga series by buncho. The series centers on the comedic daily lives of inhabitants at a run-down apartment complex, capturing a niche subgenre of slice-of-life storytelling that emphasizes character-driven humor and the relatable struggles of young adults living in cramped, aging quarters.
The animation style and design direction were intended to preserve the minimalist, endearing aesthetic of the original manga panels. While the series maintains a modest profile within the broader landscape of Japanese animation, it was well-received by fans of the iyashikei and gag genres for its lighthearted tone and ability to transform mundane apartment living into a series of humorous observations.
