Zetman

Zetman is a 2012 anime adaptation based on the long-running dark fantasy manga series by Masakazu Katsura. Produced by TMS Entertainment and aired on TV Asahi, the series serves as a gritty reimagining of the superhero genre, exploring themes of justice, humanity, and moral ambiguity. It follows two young men, Jin Kanzaki and Kouga Amagi, who find themselves pulled into a conflict involving artificially created monsters known as Players.

Katsura, best known for his romantic comedies, pivoted toward a much darker, visceral aesthetic for this project, heavily influenced by traditional tokusatsu programs. The character designs emphasize a sharp, biomechanical look that bridges the gap between traditional hero tropes and body horror.
