Where it came from
Zonmi-chan: Halloween☆Special Movie! was released in 2015 as a promotional ONA, or Original Net Animation, designed to spotlight the character Zonmi-chan. The production emerged from a trend of short-form promotional videos used to build brand awareness for specific mascots or conceptual character designs during the mid-2010s in Japan.
The project was crafted to capture a lighthearted, seasonal aesthetic, leveraging the popularity of Halloween-themed content within anime subcultures. It utilized a stylized, vibrant animation approach intended to appeal to fans of character-driven web media, serving as a brief but stylized introduction to the character’s personality and visual design.
