Andaman Cuckoo-Dove

The Andaman Cuckoo-Dove, scientifically identified as Macropygia rufipennis, is an avian species endemic to the Andaman Islands in the Bay of Bengal. It was first described by the naturalist Edward Blyth in the mid-19th century, a period during which British colonial interest in the archipelago led to the formal cataloging of its unique biodiversity. As a member of the Columbidae family, its evolutionary path diverged in isolation, resulting in distinct morphological characteristics adapted to the dense tropical forests of its island home.
