Cameroon Mountain Greenbul

The Cameroon Mountain Greenbul (Arizelocichla montana) is a bird species endemic to a narrow range of montane forests in Cameroon and Nigeria. It was formally described in the early 20th century, emerging from the era of colonial-era biological surveys aimed at cataloging the unique biodiversity of the Afromontane archipelago. As a member of the Pycnonotidae family, its taxonomy has undergone revisions, with the species formerly being considered a subspecies of the Mountain Greenbul before being elevated based on morphological and vocal distinctions.

The physical design of the Cameroon Mountain Greenbul is highly specialized for life in the dense forest understory. Its rounded wings and rounded tail are evolutionary adaptations for maneuverability, allowing the bird to navigate through cluttered vegetation with high precision. These features, combined with its inconspicuous olive-green plumage, reflect an evolutionary strategy centered on crypsis and short-distance, agile flight within the canopy and shrub layers of high-altitude ecosystems.
