Henst's Goshawk

Henst's Goshawk, scientifically known as Astur henstii, is an elusive bird of prey endemic to the forests of Madagascar. It was formally described by the naturalist Hermann Schlegel in the 19th century, named in honor of the Dutch explorer and collector Jan van Oordt van Henst. The species occupies a niche as a specialized forest predator, characterized by its broad wings and rounded tail, physical adaptations that allow for exceptional maneuverability amidst dense canopy foliage.

The bird's design is a striking example of evolutionary utility, favoring stealth and precision over long-distance soaring. As an apex predator within its shrinking habitat, it has long been of significant interest to ornithologists studying island biogeography and speciation.
