Hume's Lark

Hume's Lark, scientifically classified as Calandrella acutirostris, was formally described by Allan Octavian Hume in 1871. Named after its discoverer, a British civil servant and ornithologist stationed in India, the species was identified to distinguish it from the closely related Greater Short-toed Lark. Its discovery emerged from the nineteenth-century tradition of documenting the diverse avian populations of the high-altitude plateaus and arid environments of Central Asia, where the species maintains its breeding grounds.

The bird is characterized by its subtle, adaptive morphology, specifically a pointed wing shape that facilitates its migratory habits and a distinctively notched tail.
