Javan Trogon

The Javan Trogon, Apalharpactes reinwardtii, is an elusive bird species endemic to the humid montane forests of West Java, Indonesia. First described by Coenraad Jacob Temminck in the early 19th century, this species holds significant historical importance in avian taxonomy as it was formerly grouped with the Asian trogons before being reclassified into its own monotypic genus. Its evolutionary path and specific habitat requirements have made it a subject of great interest for ornithologists studying island biogeography and the unique faunal history of the Sunda Shelf.

The physical characteristics of the Javan Trogon, including its distinctive rounded wings and rounded tail, are evolutionary adaptations suited for life within dense, high-altitude forest canopies.
