Jelski's Black-Tyrant

Jelski's Black-Tyrant, scientifically identified as Knipolegus signatus, is a member of the tyrant flycatcher family native to the humid montane forests of the Andes. It was first described by the Polish zoologist Wladyslaw Taczanowski in the late 19th century, named in honor of Konstanty Jelski, a Polish naturalist and explorer who collected extensively in Peru. The species is characterized by its broad wings and distinctive notched tail, physical traits that have evolved to aid its maneuverability within the dense, shaded understory of its high-altitude habitat.
