La Selle Thrush

The La Selle Thrush, scientifically classified as Turdus swalesi, is an elusive bird species endemic to the high-elevation pine forests of the Hispaniola massif. Discovered and formally described in the early 20th century, it is named in honor of the La Selle mountain range in Haiti, where it maintains a specialized niche within cloud forest environments. Its evolutionary history is deeply intertwined with the fragmented geography of the Caribbean, which has fostered the development of its distinctive, stable morphological traits.
