Little Corella

The Little Corella, or Cacatua sanguinea, is a member of the cockatoo family native to northern and central Australia. Unlike rare or endangered species, these birds have historically adapted exceptionally well to human-altered landscapes, often gathering in large, highly vocal flocks in urban parks and agricultural zones. Their presence in Australian cultural history is deeply tied to their reputation as clever, social, and occasionally disruptive inhabitants of the outback.

The species is characterized by a distinct morphology, including a white plumage base with a subtle yellow wash on the underside of the wings and tail. Ornithologists note their rounded wing and tail shapes as evolutionary adaptations that support their agile flight patterns. While not a 'designed' object, the natural aesthetic of the Little Corella has long been documented in natural history illustrations, such as those by John Gould, who sought to capture the characteristic social intensity and inquisitive expression of the species for nineteenth-century audiences.
