Modest Tiger-Parrot

The Modest Tiger-Parrot, Psittacella modesta, was formally described by zoologist Hermann Schlegel in 1871. Native to the mountain forests of New Guinea, the species occupies a distinct ecological niche at high altitudes, primarily living in the dense undergrowth of mossy forests. Its name reflects its relatively small stature and the distinct, tiger-like barred plumage that provides effective camouflage amidst the shadows and foliage of its montane habitat.
