First described by French ornithologist Louis Jean Pierre Vieillot in 1818, these birds have evolved distinctive features suited to their environment, most notably their rounded wings and short, rounded tails that facilitate the quick, agile flight necessary for navigating rocky desert outcrops and scrubland.
