Negros Leaf Warbler

The Negros Leaf Warbler, Phylloscopus nigrorum, is a small passerine bird endemic to the Philippines, specifically found in the montane forests of islands such as Negros, Panay, and Mindanao. Historically categorized as a subspecies of the Mountain Leaf Warbler, it was elevated to full species status following taxonomic revisions based on vocalizations and genetic analysis. It occupies the mid-to-high canopy, thriving in the cool, mossy environments of high-altitude tropical forests.

The physical morphology of the species, characterized by its pointed wings and distinctively notched tail, reflects its evolutionary adaptation for agile movement within dense forest foliage. It was first formally described by the ornithologist Henry H. Johnston in the early 20th century.
