Peruvian Pigeon

The Peruvian Pigeon, known scientifically as Patagioenas oenops, is a rare avian species endemic to the Marañón River valley in northern Peru. Its existence as a distinct species is defined by its adaptation to the arid, scrubby habitats of the Andean foothills, where it relies on specific forest patches. The bird was first described in the late 19th century, reflecting the era's intensive ornithological exploration of the South American interior, which aimed to document unique regional biodiversity.
