Philippine Eagle-Owl

The Philippine eagle-owl, scientifically known as Ketupa philippensis, is an endemic apex predator native to the lowland forests of the Philippines. Historically, it was integrated into the biodiversity of the archipelago's old-growth forests, existing as part of a specialized group of fish-owls. The bird's evolution has been dictated by the dense, humid environment of its range, leading to its characteristic broad wings and rounded tail, which provide the maneuverability required for hunting within thick tropical vegetation.

The species was formally described by ornithologists in the mid-19th century, gaining recognition for its striking plumage and distinct morphological adaptations compared to other Strigidae.
