Reischek's Parakeet

Reischek's parakeet, or Cyanoramphus hochstetteri, is native to the Antipodes Islands of New Zealand. It was named in honor of Andreas Reischek, an Austrian naturalist and taxidermist who documented much of New Zealand's avian life during the late 19th century. The species evolved in a unique, isolated environment, which shaped its distinctive rounded wing morphology and pointed tail, features that aid in maneuvering through the dense, low-lying scrub of its subantarctic habitat.
