Spot-throated Hummingbird

The spot-throated hummingbird, known scientifically as Thaumasius taczanowskii, was formally described by the French naturalist Eugène Simon in 1900. It is native to the dry forest and scrub habitats of northwestern Peru, occupying a narrow ecological niche that has made it a subject of interest for ornithologists studying the unique biodiversity of the Tumbesian region. The species was named in honor of Władysław Taczanowski, a prominent Polish zoologist who made significant contributions to the documentation of South American avian life during the late 19th century.
