Where it came from
Published in 2007 as part of the Biblioteca Clarín de la Música series, this volume offers an overview of the life and artistic trajectory of Charly García, an foundational figure in Argentine rock. Produced by the major newspaper Clarín, the series was designed to provide accessible, educational profiles of prominent musicians for a broad readership, documenting the evolution of contemporary Argentine culture through its most influential voices.
The book functions as a biographical survey, detailing García’s prolific career from the foundational bands Sui Generis and Serú Girán to his extensive solo work. Authored by Jorge Sánchez, the text situates García’s eclectic discography within the sociopolitical backdrop of late 20th-century Argentina. The editorial intent was to archive the complex creative identity of a man frequently described as a musical genius, balancing anecdotal detail with historical analysis to capture the enduring impact of his sound.
