Charly García

Published in 1983 by Librería y Editorial El Juglar, this work by journalist Daniel Chirom stands as one of the earliest and most significant biographical accounts of the Argentine rock icon Charly García. Released during a pivotal transition in Argentine history, the book captures the cultural resurgence following the end of the military dictatorship, documenting the emergence of García as a central figure in the local rock movement who successfully navigated the tensions between political expression and artistic identity.

Chirom crafted this text as a deep dive into García’s creative process and public persona, drawing from his close access to the musician during the transition from the disbanded band Serú Girán to his highly successful solo career. The design and narrative voice reflect the raw, intellectual urgency of the early eighties Buenos Aires music scene. It is widely considered an essential document for understanding the foundational years of modern Argentine rock, offering a snapshot of a period where García’s influence began to extend far beyond local borders.
