Where it came from
Published in 1985 by Editora Granizo, this work emerged during a pivotal moment in the career of Charly García, one of the most influential figures in Argentine rock. Following the return of democracy to Argentina, García was transitioning from the progressive rock of Serú Girán toward a more experimental and pop-oriented solo sound. The book serves as a reflection of his artistic persona during this era, capturing the introspective and often provocative spirit that defined his contributions to the cultural landscape of the 1980s.
The publication acts as a creative companion to García’s musical output, blending visual elements with the lyrical sensibilities that made him an icon of South American music. It was designed to bridge the gap between his role as a public musician and his identity as a multifaceted artist. While it was received primarily by his dedicated fanbase, it remains a significant artifact for those studying the intersection of rock culture and literature in post-dictatorship Argentina, reflecting a period of immense creative liberation.
