Collection Jean Walter - Paul-Guillaume

The 1966 publication documenting the Jean Walter and Paul Guillaume collection was produced by the Réunion des musées nationaux to accompany the permanent installation of these masterpieces at the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris. The collection itself originated from the refined eye of art dealer Paul Guillaume and was later augmented by his widow, Domenica Walter, whose acquisition of the works significantly shaped the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist holdings of the French state.

This catalog serves as a foundational record of the collection's transition from private hands into the public trust. It offers a detailed look at the assembly of works by artists such as Renoir, Cézanne, and Modigliani, reflecting the aesthetic sensibilities of the interwar period. The design and documentation were aimed at providing scholars and visitors with a definitive reference to the provenance and stylistic evolution of these iconic canvases, establishing the Orangerie as a premier destination for twentieth-century modernism.
