Dan van Severen

Published in 1991 by Editions Tandem, this monograph serves as a focused exploration of the artistic practice of Dan van Severen, a central figure in Belgian minimal and conceptual art. The book was produced to document his reductive approach, characterized by a lifelong commitment to the line, the square, and the cross as fundamental elements of visual language. It captures his deliberate rejection of narrative in favor of a spiritualized, meditative engagement with materiality and space.

The publication reflects the precise, restrained aesthetic that defined Van Severen's career, presenting his work in a format that honors the silent tension between presence and absence. As an artist who gained international recognition for his persistent investigation of geometry and monochrome surfaces, Van Severen's influence remains rooted in the purity of his compositions. This collection of his work is regarded by art historians as an essential reference for understanding the trajectory of European minimalism in the late twentieth century.
