Danzig und der Ostseeraum

Danzig und der Ostseeraum was published in 2005 by Edition Lumière as part of their commitment to historical and academic literature concerning the Baltic region. The work emerged from the scholarly interest in the complex geopolitical and cultural shifts that shaped Danzig, now Gdańsk, as a pivotal hub of trade and intellectual exchange throughout the centuries. By situating the city within the broader context of the Baltic Sea area, the text aims to bridge the gap between regional historiography and European political development.

Holger Böning, a historian noted for his expertise in media history and the Enlightenment, crafted this work to provide a rigorous analysis of the historical forces that defined the region's identity. The book reflects the publisher's focus on detailed, research-driven narratives, eschewing populist interpretations in favor of a nuanced investigation into the economic and social ties that historically connected these Baltic territories. It was received by the academic community as a reliable reference for those studying North German and Polish historical intersections.
