Das Evangelium nach Lukas

Das Evangelium nach Lukas, authored by Karl Heinrich Rengstorf, was published in 1937 as part of the Das Neue Testament Deutsch series by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht. This scholarly commentary emerged during a tumultuous period in German history, when the academic study of theology was navigating the increasing pressures exerted by the National Socialist regime on church institutions and intellectual life. The series aimed to provide accessible yet rigorous biblical interpretation for both clergy and educated laypeople during a time of profound existential uncertainty.

Karl Heinrich Rengstorf, a prominent theologian, approached the Gospel of Luke with an emphasis on its distinct narrative structure and its universalist theological message. His work within this series reflects the broader efforts of 20th-century Protestant exegesis to synthesize traditional philological methods with modern historical-critical approaches. The publication was well-received within academic circles for its clarity and depth, remaining a staple reference for students of Lukan theology for decades following its initial release.
