Das verhältnis von Strickers Karl zum Rolandslied des pfaffen Konrad

Published in 1902 by A. Pichler's Witwe & Sohn, this scholarly monograph was authored by J. J. Ammann. It emerged from the rigorous tradition of late nineteenth-century Germanic philology, a period characterized by intense academic interest in Middle High German literature and the genealogical relationships between various iterations of epic poetry.

Ammann’s work specifically analyzes the literary connection between Stricker’s Karl der Große, a thirteenth-century adaptation of the Charlemagne legend, and the earlier Rolandslied attributed to Konrad der Pfaffe. The study reflects the contemporary intellectual preoccupation with source criticism and the evolution of courtly literature, aiming to place Stricker's stylistic and narrative choices within the context of the established chanson de geste tradition.
