Der Preis des Architekturmuseums Basel 2002 an Bernd und Hilla Becher, Düsseldorf

This volume was published by the Architekturmuseum Basel in 2002 to commemorate the awarding of the Architekturmuseum Prize to Bernd and Hilla Becher. The publication serves as a scholarly record of the influential conceptual photography duo, whose work documenting industrial architecture transformed the intersection of fine art and structural documentation. It contextualizes their contribution to the field through the lens of their unique systematic approach.

The design of the book reflects the aesthetic restraint characteristic of the Bechers' own work, prioritizing clarity and structural focus. By gathering reflections on their practice alongside the context of the prize, the curators aimed to bridge the gap between architectural history and photographic theory. The publication was well-received by the academic and architectural communities as a concise, authoritative summary of the couple's long-standing impact on modern observation.
