Entretien de Simon-Pierre avec Jésus

This work, attributed to Geoffrey of Auxerre, emerged from the intellectual landscape of the 12th-century Cistercian movement. As a secretary and close associate of Bernard of Clairvaux, Geoffrey produced writings that sought to deepen the theological and spiritual understanding of the period. This specific text explores the relationship and dialogue between Simon-Pierre and Jesus, reflecting the medieval tradition of expanding upon scriptural narratives to offer moral instruction and contemplative guidance for monastic life.

The 1986 edition published by Editions du Cerf serves as a modern scholarly presentation of this historical manuscript. It is part of the publisher’s long-standing commitment to making primary source texts in theology, history, and patristics accessible to contemporary researchers and readers. By providing this translation, the editors aimed to bridge the gap between medieval Latin scholarship and the modern francophone reader, ensuring that the nuances of Geoffrey’s prose and theological intent were preserved within a rigorous academic framework.
