Entwicklungsgeschichte der Lehre von der Person Christi

Isaak August Dorner published this monumental work in the mid-nineteenth century, serving as a cornerstone of Protestant systematic theology. The text provides an exhaustive historical investigation into the doctrine of the person of Christ, tracing its development from the apostolic age through the Reformation. Dorner wrote this during a period of intense theological debate in Germany, aiming to bridge the gap between historical critical methods and orthodox belief by presenting Christology as an organic, unfolding realization of the divine-human union.

The work was received as a landmark contribution to nineteenth-century speculative theology and remains a primary reference for scholars of Christological history. While the 2018 Forgotten Books edition is a modern reprint intended to preserve access to this classic scholarly research, the original mid-century publication was instrumental in shaping the views of theologians throughout Europe and eventually the English-speaking world, cementing Dorner's legacy as a significant mediator in modern religious thought.
