Evgeniy Onegin

Evgeniy Onegin is the seminal verse novel written by Alexander Pushkin between 1823 and 1831. It is widely considered the cornerstone of modern Russian literature, notable for its sophisticated use of the Onegin stanza, a unique fourteen-line rhyme scheme created by Pushkin specifically for this work. By blending lyrical poetry with a cynical, realistic narrative, Pushkin captured the disillusionment of the Russian aristocracy during the early nineteenth century.
