History of Protestant Theology

Originally published in the late 19th century as 'Geschichte der protestantischen Theologie', Isaak A. Dorner’s masterwork emerged from the tradition of German academic theology, representing a comprehensive effort to synthesize the historical development of Reformation thought. Dorner sought to bridge the gap between speculative philosophy and confessional theology, offering a rigorous, scholarly examination of the trajectory of Protestant doctrine from the time of Luther through the mid-1800s.

The 2004 Wipf & Stock edition is a modern reprint designed to make this dense, foundational text accessible once again to contemporary students and scholars. By preserving Dorner’s intricate intellectual framework and his evaluative approach to theological history, the publisher maintained the integrity of the original work, ensuring that his nuanced critiques of early modern thinkers remained available for those investigating the evolution of systematic theology.
