System of Christian Doctrine, Volume 4

Originally published in the late 19th century as part of Isaak August Dorner’s monumental A System of Christian Doctrine, this work stands as a cornerstone of 19th-century German Protestant theology. Dorner, a prominent mediator theologian, intended the text to bridge the divide between traditional dogmatics and the intellectual challenges posed by the modern scientific and philosophical developments of his era. This specific volume serves as a critical component of his broader attempt to synthesize biblical revelation with human reason, reflecting the depth of late-Schleiermacherian academic traditions.

The 2016 edition by Wipf & Stock is a modern reprint designed to make Dorner's complex, dense argumentation accessible to contemporary seminary students and theologians. By utilizing high-quality reproduction techniques, the publisher sought to preserve the scholarly integrity of the original text while addressing the demand for historical theological research materials. While Dorner’s writing style is famously rigorous and intentionally intricate, it has been received by scholars as a vital primary source for understanding the development of modern Christology and the evolution of systematic theology.
