History of Protestant Theology, Volume 2

Originally published in German as 'Geschichte der protestantischen Theologie' in 1867, Isaak August Dorner’s foundational work sought to trace the intellectual development of Protestant thought from the Reformation through the mid-19th century. Dorner, a prominent Prussian theologian, crafted this rigorous academic history to articulate the theological nuances of the Lutheran and Reformed traditions, aiming to provide a comprehensive, critical survey that influenced generations of systematic theologians.

The 2004 edition published by Wipf & Stock serves as a modern reprint of this classic nineteenth-century scholarship. By making Dorner’s dense, scholarly insights available once more to contemporary seminarians and historians, the publisher sought to preserve a vital link to the development of modern dogmatic theology. While the original work was celebrated in its era for its encyclopedic scope and analytical depth, it remains a challenging, specialized text primarily utilized within academic circles for historical research.
