Where it came from
Igor is a novelization written by Cathy Hapka, released in 2008 to coincide with the premiere of the animated feature film of the same name. Published by Simon Spotlight, the book serves as a tie-in aimed at younger readers, retelling the story of an ambitious hunchbacked laboratory assistant who dreams of becoming a mad scientist in his own right in the kingdom of Malaria.
The book adapts the screenplay by Chris McKenna, capturing the film's gothic, comedic aesthetic which draws heavily from classic horror tropes and monster cinema. As part of the promotional material for the animated production, the volume emphasizes the character-driven humor and visual wit characteristic of the film's art direction, though it received limited critical attention compared to the film's primary theatrical release.
